Hello parents, and happy harvest!
Sight word tests are over! Excellent job, scholars, you did it! You’ve
learned to read over 50 words! Beginning next week, scholars will take
weekly spelling tests. Please continue reviewing sight words to ensure
that your scholar doesn’t lose what they have learned. Parents, even if
your scholar did not complete all ten sight word lists, they must move on
to the following list. Scholars who successfully completed all ten lists are
invited to the sight word party to celebrate. All spelling word lists are
attached for your convenience. Our first spelling test consists of a blend
review, a consonant and a vowel joined together to make a sound, and a
review of one vowel words. Please allow your scholar to review the
phonetic rules while learning to memorize the spelling of the words. Next
week, words will be broken down phonetically to enable scholars to hear
each sound, but they are responsible for sounding out their words for list
two and beyond. Initially, scholars will write their words on paper;
however, as we progress, spelling tests will be administered via
technology and multiple choice to prepare them for standardized testing
next semester. Bonus opportunities will be posted to the class website
when available, and bonus words may be given on written tests.
Scholars will have a practice test next Thursday, November 3rd, and
their final test on Friday, November 4th. For lists two and beyond,
scholars will have one opportunity to test, and tests will take place each
Thursday.
Additionally, please ensure that your scholar continues memorizing their
poem. As a reminder, scholars will recite their poems Thursday,
November 10th, for a grade. Please let me know if you have any
questions or concerns.
All the best,
Mr. Marco
